today I received an email from the american entomological society (aes) congratulating me on receiving an honorable mention for my logo design for their upcoming 150th anniversary. even though it didn't win, it was a pleasant reminder of some of my favorite things and i thought i would share it.
i included these bugs because they looked cool with the numbers 150, but also because they are some of my favorites for the following reasons:
praying mantises because it always freaks me out then makes me laugh when one grabs my finger and then i realize it won't hurt me.
robber flies because my first bug hunting trip was looking for them with Riley (back when i was a freshman and not yet a biology major).
tortoise beetles because they are just dang cool and super pretty, they've always been my favorite (well, besides my aquatics).
nerdy, i know...but that's how it goes around here.
yeah for bugs!
